Editor's note
Kendal's #1 recommendation for anyone rebuilding their barrier.

Why we like it.

If we could put one product in every Northville medicine cabinet, this would be it. It is ceramide-based, non-foaming, and quietly effective — which is exactly what a cleanser should be.

The formula is fragrance-free and pH-balanced, so it doesn't leave that tight, squeaky feeling that tells you the barrier just took a hit. That matters even more in the winter, when Michigan air is already pulling water out of your skin between cleanses.

It also earns its space in the shower for what it doesn't do — no exfoliating beads, no essential oils, no menthol tingle. Boring is the point. Save the excitement for your serum.

Good for
  • Anyone starting a real routine for the first time
  • Dry, sensitive, eczema-prone, or reactive skin
  • People rebuilding their barrier after over-exfoliating
  • Retinol or tretinoin users who need a gentler cleanse
Skip it if
  • Very oily skin that genuinely wants a foaming gel cleanser
  • Anyone looking for a scented, spa-like shower experience
It doesn't do anything exciting. That's exactly the point — a cleanser's job is to leave and not disturb the skin.

How to use it

A simple, repeatable routine.

  1. 1AM: a dime-sized amount on damp skin, massage 20 seconds, rinse with lukewarm water.
  2. 2PM: after removing sunscreen or makeup with a balm or micellar water, cleanse a second time with this to actually clean skin.
  3. 3Always follow with a moisturizer while skin is still damp — cleanser is never the last step.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

Does it remove sunscreen and makeup?

On its own, not fully. Do a first cleanse with a balm, oil, or micellar water, then use this as your second cleanse.

Is it safe with tretinoin or retinol?

Yes — this is one of the safest cleansers to pair with a retinoid. It won't add irritation.

Can I use it on my body?

You can, but the 16 oz bottle is priced so well you'll probably keep a second one in the shower for face-only use.
